Vision and Mission: 

At Mesa Preparatory Academy we envision living in a more just, humane, and philosophical society.  To make that happen, each day we educate students for the life-long pursuit of Truth, Goodness, and Beauty.

Curriculum:

In our literature, history, and fine arts classes, students study classical works and Great Books through critical reading, seminar discussions, and logical, thoughtful writing or performance.

All students study Latin in the middle school and many continue those studies, adding Greek, in high school, or they engage in an immersion experience with Spanish or French.

We pursue an understanding of the sciences primarily through discovery, modeling, and labs.  We study mathematics through rigorous, problem-based, conversations.  Our math and science programs are designed to develop logical, mathematical reasoning and problem-solving perseverance.

The capstone experience for each senior is a thesis on one of six great ideas, defended before a faculty panel in a public setting.

Culture:

We believe, as Plato stated, that real understanding and knowledge are acquired through conversation and living.  Teachers and outstanding student exemplars, mentors, are role models of conduct, scholarship, and curiosity about life.  While our primary method of classroom instruction is Socratic conversation or dialogue, our studies lead to the examination of what it means to be human and how we should live our lives.  The truths students discover in reading and discussion, intentionally guide the formation of our culture and help refine the character and soul of each one of us.

Faculty:

The faculty at Mesa Prep is a diverse group of thoughtful, caring, and curious teachers deeply committed to sharing their knowledge and engaging students in the joys of discovery and learning.  Their personal joy in scholarship and in continuing conversations with colleagues and students, and the Aristotelian-type friendships that have resulted, are the nuclear core of the learning community at our school.

Mentoring:

Every student of reasonably average intelligence, who is willing to work hard, be curious, and engage in thoughtful reading, writing, problem-solving, and conversation is able to be successful at Mesa Prep.  Not every student enters with these traits, so teachers and mentors assist to instill them.  Teachers have smaller classes and are able to give more personal attention to students.  Every teacher tutors.  And, every new student is assigned a personal mentor; an exemplary high school student who takes a personal interest in helping the student adjust to the Mesa Prep environment, make friends, and become a successful life-long learner.

Other Essentials:

Extra-curricular activities are extensions of the classroom.  Most of our students participate in athletics and extra-curricular activities to pursue personal interests and the joy of competition.  Nearly every Mesa Prep student plans to attend a 4-year university upon graduation.  Our full-time college counselor and state-of-the-art search and application tools ensure students of finding the school that best fits their interests and needs.
